Our Story
Daybreak Farms is a small market garden/CSA. We, Chantal and Johan Klok, grow wholesome, nutritious vegetables on 2 acres near Picture Butte, Alberta. We supply eggs and flowers from local farmers as well. Our produce is available through a CSA, which is a subscription program through which families can sign up for a season of fresh, local produce and eggs. Our produce is also available through our online store.
How did Daybreak Farms start? Well, that goes back to when I, (Chantal), was a young teenager. I started working at a market garden when I was 14 and by the time I graduated high school I knew I wanted to have my own someday! I received my Prairie Horticulture Certificate from Olds College the year after that and continued working at the market garden. In 2020 I married my amazing husband (Johan), and he’s the one who encouraged me to take the leap and start my own small backyard garden. We built a greenhouse together and started The Veggie Patch. It quickly became a success, and it didn’t take long before we were talking about expanding. One year later, and we created Daybreak Farms.
We make an amazing team together. I, Chantal, take care of the growing, harvesting, packaging, and delivering of the produce. My husband, Johan, has a full-time job as a dairy service tech but enjoys finding and fixing equipment as well as coming up with new ways of making everything more efficient in his spare time. We are both very interested in regenerative, sustainable agriculture. Hope to see you soon!
